  • Description:

The 2013-P Great Basin (NV) Uncirculated Quarter highlights a national park with an interesting history. The Great Basin National Park is located in Nevada and was recently established as a park in 1986. The park's main attraction was the Bristlecone Pine tree, which was at least 5,000 years old. This tree was the oldest non-clonal organism ever discovered but unfortunately was cut down by a research student in 1964. Since it was cut down, the tree was given the nickname, Prometheus, after greek mythology. The park also contains 11 different types of conifer trees and 800 different species of plants. Many visitors go for the camping, since there are plenty of campsites within the park with remarkable views.
