  • Description:

The Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco Mint all participated in the mintage of the Sacagawea Dollar, each mint marking the coins they produced. After the success of the Morgan over the years, the US Mint set up a tough act to follow. With the minting of the Peace dollar then the Eisenhower and Susan B. Anthony, the US Mint searched endlessly for ways to mint a highly collectible coin. In hopes to save money on minting millions of coins, the US Mint produced the Sacagawea Dollar in 2000 but made efforts not to put it into circulation every year. The 2009-D Sacagawea Dollar is in brilliant uncirculated condition and was minted at the famous Denver Mint. The obverse displays the beautiful Native American, Sacagawea, who helped guide the Lewis and Clark Expedition. This is the first year the US Mint decided the change the reverse design, replacing the eagle design with another portrait of Sacagawea tending to her ever-growing crops.
