The 1898 Liberty Head Nickel, commonly called the V Nickel, represents the classic five-cent design created by U.S. Mint Chief Engraver Charles E. Barber. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint with a mintage of 12,530,292 coins, the 1898 issue consists of 75% copper and 25% nickel, weighs 5.00 grams, measures 21.2 mm in diameter and approximately 1.95 mm thick, and has a plain edge.
