This 1801 Draped Bust Large Cent is an early American copper coin featuring the iconic portrait of Liberty with her hair tied in a ribbon, facing right. Although heavily worn, the date and design details remain partially visible. The reverse bears a wreath enclosing the words “ONE CENT,” with “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” surrounding it. This example is noted as having “Very Good Details” with “Porous Surface” and three minting or post-minting errors, adding intrigue to its collector value.
Designed by Robert Scot, the Draped Bust design was used from 1796 to 1807. The large cents of this era were made from pure copper and were often hand-fed into presses, resulting in frequent striking variations and occasional minting errors—making error examples like this especially collectible among specialists in early copper.
