The Seated Liberty Quarter series began its production in 1838 and continued until 1891. The Seated Liberty design was used on the dime, quarter, and half dollar and would be replaced by the infamous Barber coin series. The quarter underwent numerous revisions throughout its cycle as the US quarter, creating varietal types for collectors. Some examples of these varieties are large and small dates, stars and no stars, drapery being removed, re-struck mint-marks, and a die crack at various stages of production. The Seated Liberty collection is not for the faint of heart and is mainly popular among experienced collectors.

The 1856 Seated Liberty Quarter has a mintage over 7 million and is accessible in most conditions. Considered to be in extra fine condition, the 1856 Seated Liberty Quarter contains slight wear on both sides of the coin and the silver color of the coin has begun to tarnish. 1856 was also an important year for the US; Dallas, Texas becoming an official city for one. University of Maryland was established, which was then referred to as Maryland Agriculture College. James Buchanan became the 15th president of the US in November. The Seated Liberty Quarter series represents so much history in the US and is a collection ideal for experienced collectors. With their 90% silver, the Seated Liberty Quarter series is a great investment for those ambitious enough to collect them.
