  • Description:

The 1886 Seated Liberty Dime has an abundant mintage of over 6.3 million. Exhibiting severe wear and lacking in detail, the 1886 Seated Liberty Dime is in very good condition. The Seated Liberty Dime series began its production in 1837 and continued until 1891. The Seated Liberty design was used on the dime, quarter, and half dollar and would be replaced by the infamous Barber coin series. The dime underwent numerous revisions throughout its cycle as the US dime, creating varietal types for collectors. Some examples of these varieties are large and small dates, stars and no stars, drapery being removed, re-struck mint-marks, and a die crack at various stages of production. The Seated Liberty collection is not for the faint of heart and is mainly popular among experienced collectors.

The year, 1886, was a big one for the US. The first load of oranges leaves California via the new railroad system. A strike that eventually leads to the 8 hour work day occurs and President Grover Cleveland becomes the first president to marry in the White House. The Philadelphia Mint has been around since 1792 and has seen its fair share of American History. Being a part of history itself, the Philadelphia Mint was commissioned by the Founding Fathers and was the first ever US Mint facility. Established for means of international commerce, the Philadelphia Mint helped put the US on the world map, and aided in the new nation's reputation worldwide.
