  • Description:

Being the first mint established in the US, the Philadelphia Mint has seen its fair share of successes and failures. After the production of the Peace silver dollar in 1935, the US Mint wouldn't even begin a new dollar until 1970. The Eisenhower Dollar was too big for currency and the succeeding Susan B. Anthony dollar was mainly popular for vending machine use. When the Philadelphia Mint made the Sacagawea Dollar, it used the mistakes from the first two to produce a collectible coin. Since the Sacagawea Dollar is primarily minted for collection purposes and not for circulation, it is easy to find Sacagawea Dollars in mint-state condition. The 2003-P Sacagawea Dollar carries the "P" mint-mark and is in brilliant uncirculated condition. The Sacagawea Dollar began mintage in 2000 and has become a classic for many coin collectors, who enjoy ease and accessibility over the thrill of the chase.
