  • Description:

The Morgan Silver Dollar was first minted coin in 1878, after a bill that passed causing the Seated Liberty to stop production. The government tried to regulate the amount of silver being mined so there were many bills passed and vetoed during the production of the Morgan. The government also had silver reserves that were only to be used to melt and mint silver dollars but unfortunately, those reserves ran out, causing the Morgan's production to also end. It wasn't until 1918 that the reauthorization of the minting and mining of silver coins was passed. The Morgan dollar had one last hoorah in 1921 before the Peace dollar became the new silver dollar. Your 1891-S Morgan was minted in San Francisco and carries the "S" mint mark. Your Morgan is considered to be brilliantly uncirculated and its luster should be obvious from one side of the coin to the other.
