  • Description:

Since the Mint Act of 1792, all US Mint branches are required to include some symbol of Liberty on the currency. Liberty's history dates back to Greek mythology, wherein she was a goddess among the warrior and is the reason why she is always portrayed as a Grecian goddess. Lady Liberty has always been an important and patriotic symbol in the US. She represents everything this nation has fought for and continues to fight for: liberty, freedom, democracy. Her importance can be compared to a president's importance, wherein she is also included on US currency along with certain presidents' portraits. Usually, Lady Liberty is depicted as a tall and slender woman who resembles a Greek goddess. Her clothes are a light-weight Grecian robe and she is almost always holding another patriotic symbol, such as a torch or olive branches. The Barber design features Liberty's head portrait, reminiscent of a Grecian goddess, wearing a crown of leaves.

The 1908-O Barber Half Dollar is in fine condition and will be packaged in a coin flip to ensure protection. Collectors expect fine coins to contain wear on the entire coin surface with details lacking on the main images. Mint-marked with the "O", the 1908-O Barber Half Dollar was minted just one year before the infamous New Orleans Mint was decommissioned. The New Orleans Mint, or also known as the Old Mint, served as a branch of the US Mint from 1838-1861, then again from 1879-1909. The Old Mint served alongside three other mints in order to produce highly collectible coin series, such as the Barber Half Dollar or the Morgan Silver Dollar. The Old Mint is considered an official historical landmark and is considered the oldest structure in the US.
