  • Description:

The 2011 Silver Kookaburra coin is the first to be minted out of 500,000 instead of the usual 300,000. Since these silver coins sell out as soon as they are released, the Perth Mint decided to barely increase the mintage so more collectors can get their hands on the product. This increasingly popular bullion series began in 1990 by Perth Mint, the oldest operating mint in Australia. The kookaburra is native to Australia and is considered a national bird. This bird has many interesting qualities such a being carnivorous, mating for life, harassing eaters at outdoor barbecues, and most importantly, having a call that resembles human cackling. Depending on the type of kookaburra, their laughs can differ like human laughter.

Your 2011 Silver Kookaburra weighs one ounce of .999 pure silver and comes considerately encapsulated in an airtight capsule to ensure proper protection. The Perth Mint is known to mix the best qualities of the proof and brilliant uncirculated finishes to mint a creative and flawless coin.

    Coin Highlights
    -.999 fine silver
    -Brilliant Uncirculated condition
    -Sealed capsule
    -500,000 minted
-Obverse: The obverse displays a portrait of the Queen that was first designed in 1997. Ian Rank-Broadley, a famous sculptor, designed a sculpture of the Queen that brought to life her aging and maturity. Rather than hiding it, Broadley decided to celebrate the Queen's maturation by highlighting her fine lines and wrinkles. This portrait has been used on every bullion coin minted in the Commonwealth of Nations since 1997. On the obverse, the coin's legal tender value of 1 dollar is also included.
-Reverse: A beautifully spread out kookaburra graces the reverse side of the 2011 Silver Kookaburra coin. The bird's intricately detailed wings are outstretched, as it balances on a small tree stub. The reverse elegantly bears the coin series' title, the date of mintage, and the weight and purity of the coin.
