The latest addition to the Australian Lunar Series II is the silver monkey. The Perth Mint honors the Chinese zodiac calendar by minting a coin representative of that animal's year, in gold and silver. The obverse was inspired by famous sculptor Ian Rank-Broadley's masterpiece of Queen Elizabeth II, with the Queen's beautiful features in a mirrored finish. Instead of one monkey, perched on a tree, an adorable duo of two monkeys are enjoying a feast of ripe peaches. A mom and baby monkey are captured, on the reverse design, simply eating fruit from a tree with a special meaning. The peach tree is significant here because it represents longevity and immortality. "Year of the Monkey," and the Chinese symbol are also etched on the reverse to complete the significance.
