  • Description:

With only 500,000 being minted, the 1995 Mexican Libertad has one of the lowest mintages in the Libertad series. The oldest mint in the Americas, the Mexican Mint, began their journey with the Mexican Libertad series in 1982. Each year, that mint produces a Libertad with the same design on the coin with only changing the year. That famous design originated in 1921, when the Mexican Mint created the Centenario, a gold bullion coin to celebrate 100 years of independence from Spain. These silver bullion coins are promised to be .999 fine silver and in brilliant uncirculated condition. The Mexican Libertad's popularity has been growing recently and by doing so, it has made finding the lower mintage Libertads more difficult.

Featured on the obverse of the coin is the exquisite goddess, Victoria. In ancient Roman times, a winged Victoria represented victory and independence. Her reputation has stuck and her picture is a consistent design used by the Mexican Mint. On this coin, she has large, elegant wings that stretch to almost the top of the coin. She is delicately poised on a pillar on one foot. Her body is only half-covered by a draping sheet that is fluttering in the wind. In the far distance, you may see two volcanoes. These volcanoes are important to Mexico's folklore, representing two star-crossed lovers whose fate was to spend eternity as mountains side-by-side. Inscribed on the edge of the coin are the Spanish words, "1 onza plata pura." These words are translated into, "one ounce of pure silver." The coin's year of mintage, 1995, is also written on the obverse. Finally, to prove its authenticity, "ley .999," is printed around the rim. Whether you are looking just for bullion silver or for a collection, buying silver coins online has never been easier, especially with this remarkable series from Mexico.
