  • Description:

The Mexican Libertads' appeal is gaining attention due to the incredibly low mintages and the dazzling designs featured on the coins. The Mexican Mint first produced the Centenario gold Mexican coin in 1921 to honor Mexico's 100th year anniversary from Spain. Using the same design from the Centenario, the Mexican Mint started an actual bullion coin series in 1982. The Mexican Libertads are minted every year and are Mexico's version of the Silver Eagle. Each coin is guaranteed .999 pure silver, in brilliant uncirculated condition, and come protected in plastic coin flips. These Mexican Libertads are the perfect series if you are looking for a silver coin collection that is consistent in quality and detail every year.

Looking at the obverse, we see a lovely woman, half-dressed, balancing on a pillar. Her gentle arms are outstretched and her wings sweep above the detailed landscape that is behind her. She is also known as the winged Victoria, who is the symbol of Mexico's independence. Right next to her is the Mexican Mint's mintmark, "MO," and above her head are the words, "1 onza plata pura," "2006," and "ley .999," to prove the coin's purity. These Spanish words translate to "one ounce .999 pure silver." Encroaching in the background are the very active volcanoes, known as Popocatépetl and Iztaccihuatl. Once star-crossed lovers, these volcanoes are said to be the gods' answer to a desperate plea from a warrior who tragically lost his princess. Instead of bringing the princess back to life, the gods' made the two lovers into mountains so they will always be laying next to each other. The reverse displays the Mexican Coat of Arms, a lone eagle atop a cactus, holding a snake in its beak. Whether you are a coin aficionado or just looking for a silver investment, the Mexican Libertad series is the perfect collection to start!
