Zambia 1 oz Silver Elephant 2002-Proof

The 2002 Zambia Proof Silver Elephant is a collector finish of the fourth Zambian release in the African Wildlife series. Struck in .999 fine silver, the 5,000 Kwacha coin weighs 31.1 grams and measures 38.5 mm in diameter and approximately 3 mm thick.

The obverse features a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II dividing the date, with Zambia’s national arms and the denomination below. Two African elephants appear on the reverse, framed by the African Wildlife inscription and the coin’s silver content. Its proof finish distinguishes this issue from the frosted versions of the series.

The African Wildlife Elephant series was issued under Zambia from 1999 through 2003; beginning in 2004, the coins were issued under Somalia.
