  • Description:

The 1918-S Walking Liberty Half Dollar is in good to very good condition, exhibiting severe wear on both sides of the coin. Good to very good coins are also considered to be circulated. Displaying the "S" mint-mark on its reverse, the 1918-S Walking Liberty was minted at the prominent San Francisco Mint. When the Barber design was ready to retire, the Mint Director held a competition among young artists, to compete for the honor of designing the new half dollar. After the director saw Adolph A. Weinman's design, Weinman was awarded to design the new dime and half dollar. Both designs are famous designs that have acquired an extreme collector following over time. Honoring Liberty's youth by picturing her in action, instead of a stuffy portrait, brings her to life and is a great picture of American pride.

The San Francisco Mint also holds a large amount of history, since it still produces coins currently. When the California Gold Rushes were happening, the US needed a mint on the West-Coast to help turn the gold into coins. The San Francisco Mint was the solution and outgrew its first building in just the first year of production. Among all of the mints that have come and gone, the San Francisco Mint has always upheld its reputation of high quality control and strong strikes.
