The 1906-O Barber Dime has a lower mintage, of over 2 million, and can be accessed in most grades for decent premiums. Securely packaged in a coin sleeve, the highly collectible 1906-O Barber Dime will be protected while in transit. The Philadelphia Mint was the first mint to be established in the US so it doesn't mark its coins with a mint-mark. The Old Mint, served as a branch of the US Mint from 1838-1861, then again from 1879-1909; serving alongside three other mints in order to produce the highly collectible Morgan silver dollar. Decommissioned in 1909, the New Orleans Mint has been used as an assay office, a fallout shelter, and a storage facility for the US Coast Guard. The Old Mint is considered an official historical landmark and is presently the oldest structure in the US. The Old Mint also participated in other important coin series, such as the Barber coinage, wherein it is one of the only coin collections that has the same design on all denominations.

The Barber design was named after the US Mint's Chief Engraver, William Barber and was received with mixed emotions and would be replaced in 1916. The coins were in circulation from 1892-1916, but the half dollar wasn't minted the last couple of years before the series ended. The Seated Liberty design had run its course and the Mint's Director, Edward Leech, wanted to officially change the design. Holding a competition, Leech wanted to encourage participation by giving the winner a cash prize. All of the local artists invited declined and Leech resorted to his mint for direction. William Barber was ultimately assigned the task to create a new design for the US currency, that would replace the Seated Liberty.
