  • Description:

The Susan B. Anthony Dollar purposefully served as an ideal coin for vending machines and mass transit fees. The US Mint then designed the Sacagawea Dollar, which was the first US Dollar to have a golden color due to its copper core. After successfully completing its first year with the new Sacagawea Dollar, the US Mint decided to keep the series going longer than the Susan B. Anthony series. The Denver Mint played a key role in the minting of the Eisenhower, Susan B. Anthony, and Sacagawea Dollar. After seeing some of its predecessors be decommissioned, the Denver Mint was asked to step in and produce some of the key coins in US circulation. The 2005-D Sacagawea Dollar carries the "D" mint-mark and highlights the famous Shoshone Indian on the obverse. The reverse contains a simple design of an eagle, thoughtfully designed by Thomas D. Rogers.
