  • Description:

The Denver Mint is the lead coin producer in the world! Wowing collectors since the early 1900's, the Denver Mint was often used as a "back-up" mint for major coin series such as the double eagles and the Peace dollars. Using a "D" mark to help deviate where their coins are minted, the Denver Mint has slowly become a more independent mint. Sacagawea was an independent Shoshone India, who helped guide Lewis and Clark on their historically famous expedition. Since their plan was to excavate unchartered territory, Sacagawea made it easy for them by making connections with the natives as they traveled. The Sacagawea Dollar honors this brave woman by featuring her portrait on the obverse of the dollar. The 2004-D Sacagawea Dollar carries the "D" mint-mark, indicating it was minted at the Denver Mint. The reverse portrays an eagle design, which will remain as the reverse design until 2009.
