  • Description:

After successfully completing its first year with the new Sacagawea Dollar, the US Mint decided to keep the series going longer than the Susan B. Anthony series. The Denver Mint played a key role in the minting of the Eisenhower, Susan B. Anthony, and Sacagawea Dollar. After seeing some of its predecessors be decommissioned, the Denver Mint was asked to step in and produce some of the key coins in US circulation. The Denver Mint first opened in 1906 and has seen the beginning and end of some of the most famous coin collections. The Denver Mint is now deemed the top coin producer in the world, proudly marking its coins with a "D" mint-mark. The 2001-D Sacagawea Dollar shimmers with a golden tint, a result from the dollar's copper core. The historical female Native American is accurately depicted on the obverse, along with the coin's date of mintage.
