Coming off of the heels of an amazing president, Harry Truman was sworn in after the devastating death of Franklin Roosevelt. Luckily for Truman, Roosevelt had managed to get the country to victory in World War II, and Truman just needed to tie up loose ends. Unfortunately, Japan was as easy to back down as Nazi Germany was, and it was predicted that the US/Japan war would last another year. In order to save thousands of US lives, Truman made the difficult and controversial call of dropping the atomic bomb in Japan. Of course, this led to the immediate surrender of Japanese forces and the US won the war entirely. Truman was elected as president the following year and left a legacy of the importance of foreign affairs.
Each president has his interesting story of how he came to be president and the type of term he led. Harry Truman's story can always be remembered by the Presidential Dollar series. Truman's portrait is honored on the obverse of the 2015-D Presidential Dollar. Truman's memorable term is also recorded on the obverse side of the dollar. The reverse reveals a Statue of Liberty design, along with the coin's legal tender value. The stunning golden hue is the result of a copper/brass metallic alloy, instead of nickel/copper. Both the date of mintage and mint-mark are found on the rim of the 2015-D Presidential Dollar. Collectors enjoy the Presidential Dollar series, due to its accessibility and ease of finding each year. Those who are more inclined towards the history coins represent, the Presidential Dollars are a great way to remember all of the leaders and how they changed America, for better or for worse. The US Mint plans to continue the Presidential Dollar series, including most recent presidents that have passed away at least 2 years ago.
