  • Description:

Unofficially the last year of production for the Peace silver dollar, the Philadelphia Mint met its intense quota for the 8 year contract. Due to the Pittman Act of 1918, the US Mint was required to mint millions of silver dollars, only using domestic silver. As the US Mint cranked out millions upon millions of dollars, as the deadline approached, the Philadelphia Mint was able to drastically decrease production each year. In 1928, only 360,649 dollars were minted in Philadelphia, claiming first place of the lowest minted Peace dollars. Your 1928 Peace silver dollar was minted at the very first mint facility and contains 90% silver. Your coin is also in extra fine condition, which is in high demand for this date and mint-mark. Extra fine coins tend to have worn images, especially around Liberty's head and tiara, but the original mint luster is slightly still apparent.
