Did you know, in 1896, the first X-ray photograph was taken, the first female college basketball game was played, and William McKinley was elected president. Also, Utah officially became the 45th state in the United States of America. As the world kept turning, making progress in every direction, the Morgan silver dollar had its own progress it was making. 1896 was the first year, after the silver shortage, to start minting Morgans with higher mintages. From 1893-1895, a clause was repealed, causing the US Mint to only use whatever silver was in the reserves since they couldn't purchase new silver. This clause caused the Morgans to be minted at lower rates and stopping the production early each year. Your 1896-O Morgan is in extra fine condition and carries the "O" mint-mark.
