  • Description:

The 1895-S Morgan silver dollar finishes out the "low mintage years" strong with a whopping 400,000 coins produced. Although Morgans minted at the San Francisco Mint are excellently made, none were saved when being put into circulation. Even the nicer conditions are expected to come with the unfortunate bag marks. 1895 was the end of the low mintage crisis among the production of the Morgan silver dollars. In 1893, a silver purchasing clause was repealed, forcing the US Mint to only use what silver was left to make the Morgans; buying new silver was out of the question. All Morgans minted from 1893-1895 contain incredibly low mintages, when compared to the other years, because of this repeal. These low minted Morgans are only becoming more and more difficult to find in decent condition, such as extra fine.
