  • Description:

The Eisenhower series has no real numismatic value but is believed the become as popular as the Morgan silver dollar. Since the Morgan also had a difficult time, when it was first minted, but gained popularity, some hopeful collectors are wishing the same for the Eisenhower dollar. In 1965, the US Mint was required to cut back the amount of silver it was using in the currency. Instead of 90% silver, a nickel-copper alloy replaced the metal composition of all coins, except the collectible coins such as proof or part of a special series. This meant that in 1969, when the Eisenhower dollar was conceived, only a certain number of the coins could contain 40% silver. The 1974-S Clad Proof Eisenhower Dollar roll consists of 20 coins that are made from the alloy combo, hence the term "clad."
