  • Description:

The 1977 Eisenhower dollar contains a much lower mintage than what has been seen for the dollar series. Conceived in 1969, due to the passing of Dwight D. Eisenhower, the US Mint thought of the Eisenhower dollar as the new US dollar. When the Peace silver dollar's reign ended in 1935, the US Mint had no plans of resurrecting the famous dollar. Instead of honoring Lady Liberty, the US Mint wanted to celebrate someone who the country loved. Displayed on the obverse, a portrait of the late president and general is depicted, with the coin's date of mintage below. The US Mint also switched back to the regular reverse design in 1977. The king of the birds of prey, the bald eagle flies with its wings outstretched across the coin. The 1977 Eisenhower Dollar is in brilliant uncirculated condition, exhibiting a beautiful luster.
