Details
This historic copper piece is a 1787 **New Jersey Colonial Copper**, attributed to the **Maris 43-d variety** — a scarcer die marriage in the New Jersey copper series. Struck under contract by private mints operating for the State of New Jersey, these coins circulated widely in early post-Revolutionary America. The obverse features the classic **horse head facing left above a plow**, with the inscription “NOVA CAESAREA.” The reverse depicts a **shield**, representing strength and unity, and this example shows an eye-catching **double strike on the reverse**, an error that adds character and rarity appeal.
