Only 1.2 million of these Morgans were produced, alluring in coin collectors to add this low mintage gem to their collection. The San Francisco Mint was first established as a result to the famous gold rushes but how it evolved after is what stands this California based mint a apart from the others. After just its first year in business, the San Francisco Mint turned out $4 million dollars of gold coins. This mint was able to expand its production to another building and moved to the famous Granite Lady building, where it withheld its structure during the 1906 San Francisco earthquake. The building wasn't actually made of granite, just the basement was but the name was used for marketing and stuck.
