History: The 1878-S is a first-year issue of the Morgan Dollar series. The San Francisco Mint struck high-quality coins, making them one of the best-struck 1878 Morgan Dollars. 9.7 million were minted, but high-grade examples like MS65 and above are much scarcer.
Grade & Value: Graded MS65 (Gem Uncirculated) by ICG, meaning it has strong luster, minimal marks, and a sharp strike. MS65 examples from San Francisco can range from $1,200 to $1,800, depending on eye appeal and the market. Premiums apply to well-struck 1878-S Morgan's due to their collectability as an early issue.
