The 1893 Great Britain Silver Crown is an early issue from Queen Victoria’s “Veiled Head” coinage, certified by NGC as MS61. The obverse features Sir Thomas Brock’s mature portrait of Queen Victoria facing left, wearing a small crown beneath a veil, with the Latin legend identifying her as Queen of Great Britain, Defender of the Faith, and Empress of India. This example is labeled with the regnal year LVII, representing the 57th year of Victoria’s reign.
The reverse displays Benedetto Pistrucci’s iconic St. George slaying the dragon design, a celebrated motif used across British crown and sovereign coinage. The date “1893” appears below the scene, while the large silver format gives the design strong depth and visual presence. This crown has a denomination of 5 Shillings, measures 38.61 mm in diameter, weighs 28.276 grams, and is struck in .925 fine silver with an actual silver weight of approximately 0.8409 troy ounce.
