The 1795 Flowing Hair Silver Dollar is one of the earliest and most historically significant coins issued by the United States Mint, representing the young nation’s first efforts at producing large silver coinage. Designed by Robert Scot, the primary design features Liberty with flowing hair, symbolizing freedom and the ideals of the new republic. Surrounding Liberty are stars representing the states, with “LIBERTY” above and the date 1795 below. The reverse displays a small eagle encircled by a wreath, along with the inscription “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.” This particular example is the “3 Leaves” variety, identified by the three leaves beneath each wing within the wreath, a notable and collected die variety among early dollar specialists.

This coin is certified PCGS Genuine with a VG Detail designation due to prior cleaning, indicating moderate wear with visible design elements remaining, though surface originality has been affected. Despite this, early U.S. silver dollars like the 1795 Flowing Hair are highly sought after due to their historical importance, limited production, and survival rates. Struck in .8924 fine silver, the coin contains approximately 0.7734 troy ounces of silver, with a diameter of about 39–40 mm and a thickness near 2.5 mm. With a denomination of one dollar, this piece represents a tangible connection to the earliest days of the United States Mint and remains a cornerstone collectible in early American numismatics.
