Officially called the "government hoard," the government locked down on the exchange of silver certificates for silver dollars and in doing so, recovered 3 million Morgans just sitting in bags. These bags were sorted by condition and mint-mark, with only 125,000 containing a mint-mark that wasn't "CC." Since all of the uncirculated Morgans were placed into GSA holders, most have been removed throughout the years. Many Morgans with the "CC" mint-mark were once thought of has extremely rare, wherein after the 1960's, more came to surface but hardly affecting the lower mintages. Since the Carson City Mint was small in stature, it could barely mint a couple million coins at a time, causing all coins minted there to have a low mintage. Your 1884-CC Morgan is one of the rare gems to still be in its original GSA holder, that is pictured in the image to the left.
