The 1811 Capped Bust Half Dollar is an iconic early American silver coin struck during the formative years of the United States Mint. Designed by German-born engraver John Reich, the Capped Bust series marked a significant artistic departure from earlier federal coinage and introduced a more realistic portrait of Liberty that would become one of the most recognizable designs of the early nineteenth century.
