Australian Kookaburra Kilo Silver 2016

The Perth Mint started producing the Silver Kookaburra series in 1990 and what better way to celebrate its 10 year anniversary than by starting the collection? There have been plenty of mints that have come and gone in Australia but few can say they were around during the famous and historical gold rushes. In fact, the Perth Mint supplied local miners with goods in trade for the gold they mined. Some might think that isn't a fair trade but in those times, it would be difficult for miners to get paid the amount of gold they mined and some would barely be able to afford basic luxuries. The miners getting paid with goods not only helped themselves but also their families back at home. But the history isn't the only appealing aspect of the Perth Mint. Their incredible products, with high quality control, is what keeps collectors and investors coming back for more. Plus, adding a variety of sizes also adds to the appeal of this ongoing series!

The obverse, of the Australian Kookaburra Kilo Silver 2016, displays Queen Elizabeth II regally seated and posed to show her lovely side profile. Signs of aging, such as fine lines and wrinkles, are enhanced on this portrait to celebrate the Queen's maturity, rather than hide it. The coin's denomination is also featured on the obverse, to prove its authenticity. The reverse, is stamped with the coin series' title and the date of mintage, while the coin's weight and purity are included in a lighter font. The Kookaburra design chosen for the 2016 coin displays a lone bird perched on a fence pole, wrapped with barbed wire. The barren Australian Outback is also featured for the background. The Australian Kookaburra series is conveniently packaged in mint-sealed capsules to protect the coin from being scratched or tarnished.
