This 1848 Liberty Head Gold Quarter Eagle is a historic pre-1933 United States gold coin struck at the Philadelphia Mint. With a reported mintage of only 7,497 pieces, the regular 1848 Philadelphia issue represents an especially interesting early date within the long-running Liberty Head Quarter Eagle series. Designed by Christian Gobrecht, the coin is composed of 90% gold and 10% copper, weighs 4.18 grams, and contains approximately 0.12094 troy ounce of pure gold.
