Did you know that the Britannia is actually a Roman Britain female personification of a group of islands? In fact, Britannia also became a term when talking about Great Britain. After many years from being ruled by the Romans, Britain decided to honor the Britannia figure and make her a goddess. Her symbol, a tall woman wielding a trident and an olive branch, bearing a Corinthian helmet, represented the integrity of the nation and how much they are willing to fight for their fellow countrymen. In 1997, the Royal Mint wanted to begin a silver version of their 1987 gold Britannia collection. Each year, Britannia is posed on the reverse side of the coin and exhibits a fierce intensity, as a warrior should. These silver Britannias are .999 pure silver, in brilliant uncirculated condition with a proof-like finish, and are delivered in coin flips during transit. 100,000 Britannias were minted in 2007 and have constantly spurred on coin collectors, not just nationally but universally, to consider this remarkable, low mintage collection!

The reverse design reveals a more relaxed Britannia. This is our second time seeing Britannia sitting down but this time she isn't even sporting her Corinthian helmet. She resembles more of a goddess than a warrior s she sits on a small throne, with a shield and trident by her side. Britannia is protected by the lion that is usually connected with the Royal Coat of Arms. Although the design looks frosted, the background features a glaring proof-like quality to it. "One ounce fine silver, Britannia, and 2007," are etched around the goddess. The obverse portrays a more mature Queen Elizabeth II as she sits in her usual side position. Her elegant profile ia deeply detailed and realistic, doing nothing more than honoring the Queen. The shortened Latin phrase, "Red Fid Def," is written around the Queen and "2 pounds," is included underneath the lovely portrait.
