  • Description:

Grover Cleveland made history when he was elected president for the second time. It wasn't his second term that made history, but he was the first president to serve two non-consecutive terms. He also has broken the record of earning the most popular votes in three elections and more than Franklin Roosevelt. Cleveland's first term was extremely successful and focused on political reform and fiscal conservatism. His second term, however, took a worse turn when the Panic of 1893 hit the nation. Cleveland wasn't able to reverse the economical downfall, resulting in an unsuccessful second term. Through the best of times and the worst of times, Cleveland displayed true integrity, honesty, and commitment to his promises, landing him a rank among the second tier of presidents, by historians.

Grover Cleveland is the 22nd and 24th president, to be memorialized in 2012, by having his portrait displayed on the obverse of the Presidential Dollar. The mint-engraver, Don Everhart, is responsible for the design of all the presidents thus far and portrays each president from their prime. Cleveland's name and years in office are also inscribed on the obverse. The reverse displays the Statue of Liberty and the coin's monetary denomination of $1. The Presidential Dollar series is made up of a copper and manganese brass alloy, causing the coins appear as golden. The Philadelphia Mint places a "P" mint-mark on each of its coins. Although the Presidential Dollar series does not offer collectors much in terms of investment, collectors have enjoyed adding this fun and historical collection to their portfolios.
