  • Description:

Grover Cleveland was the 22nd and 24th president of the United States and is the first and only president to serve two non-consecutive terms. Cleveland is also the only president to beat Franklin Roosevelt with gaining the most popular votes over three campaigns. In his first term, Cleveland was admired for his integrity and self-reliance, fighting against high tariffs, inflation, and subsidies to businesses, such as farmers and veterans. In his second term, the Panic of 1893 happened, bringing the economy into a downward spiral. Cleveland could barely keep his head above water, let alone the country's. At the end of his presidency, he was still admired for staying true to himself and not leading a corrupt administration. Historians rank Cleveland in the second tier of presidencies due to his character and integrity.

The Presidential Dollar series honors all of the past US presidents, by featuring four on the obverse of each year. Starting in 2007, the first four presidents were portrayed on the first four Presidential Dollars. Designed by mint-engraver, Don Everhart, Cleveland's depiction is of a younger self, with his name and years of term, inscribed around his youthful face. The reverse memorializes the Statue of Liberty and contains the coin's legal tender value of $1. Since the Sacagawea Dollar received so much positive attention for its unique golden color, the US Mint decided to use the same metallic composition of copper and manganese brass. The Presidential Dollar series is ideal for a beginner collector or someone who admires history.
