This is a 1786 Connecticut Copper Half Penny, featuring the Mailed Bust Left variety. Part of the state-authorized colonial issues minted between 1785 and 1788, these coins were struck for local commerce prior to the establishment of the U.S. Mint. The obverse depicts a bust facing left wearing a military-style cuirass (hence “mailed” bust), surrounded by the Latin inscription **AUCTORI CONNEC** (Authority of Connecticut). The reverse displays a stylized Liberty-like figure with a staff and cap, surrounded by **INDE ET LIB** (Independence and Liberty).
