  • Description:

Only 59,623 silver coins were minted for the Series I rat! 2008 is the first year the Perth Mint decided to make two coins for the Australian Lunar Series I and II. The rat is the first symbol of the Chinese zodiac calendar so it was fitting to use the rat to kick off the Australian Lunar II series as well. The Series I rat coin is slightly smaller than the Series II coin by 5mm. This silver coin is 1 ounce fine silver and comes in brilliant uncirculated condition with striking proof-like qualities. If you have the luck of the ancient Chinese and you come across this coin, don't hesitate for one moment! Golden Eagle Coin is searching high and low for this coin and will immediately update our inventory as soon as we get our hands on this gem!

The idea of the rat usually comes with negative feelings: scavengers that are filthy and sneaky. But in Chinese culture, the rat is viewed as a spirit animal that is witty, alert, and cunning. People born under the year of the rat are known to be intelligent, rich, popular among peers, and good-natured. Often confused with a mouse, this rat is slyly standing at an angle. Nothing short of Perth Mint's amazing attention to detail, the rat design is impeccable with its distinct lines and curvature. The date, 2008, is at the left hand side of the rat with the usual 1 oz .999 silver at the bottom. The front of the coin, also known as the obverse contains Queen Elizabeth II, $1 denomination and the place of origin, Australia. The silver rat is the perfect start to any coin collection!
