The 1878 8tf was the first type struck for circulation and there was a mistake in the die that was soon fixed but caused a few varieties of the coin. These varieties are now highly sought after by avid collectors since only 750,000 coins were minted. When Morgans were first minted in 1878, there were numerous acts that were put in place to control the amount of silver mined. One act that encouraged the minting of the Morgans was the Coinage Act of 1873, but this act also caused the ceasing in minting of the Seated Liberty dollar. Your 1878 8tf is in almost uncirculated condition and will most likely contain abrasions or bagmarks. Besides the brilliant uncirculated Morgans, no other Morgan gives off the original luster due to wear. Your Morgan also contains 90% silver and weighs 26.73 grams, which isn't a full ounce of silver. We strive to protect your coin during shipment so it is placed in a protective coin flip for extra assurance.
