The 1813 Classic Head Large Cent is part of a short-lived series minted from 1808 to 1814. Designed by John Reich, the Classic Head replaced the Draped Bust design and introduced a more refined portrait of Liberty. This coin was struck at the Philadelphia Mint and is composed entirely of copper.
The obverse displays Liberty facing left, her hair tied with a band inscribed with the word “LIBERTY,” surrounded by thirteen stars and the date “1813” below. The reverse features a laurel wreath encircling the denomination “ONE CENT,” with “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” around the rim.
