In honor of our Founding Fathers, the first four coins minted in the Presidential Dollar series feature the first four presidents of the United States. Thomas Jefferson was not only a Founding Father but he was also the principal author of the Declaration of Independence. Born and educated in Virginia, Jefferson was born into a family of planters and surveyors. When Jefferson's father passed away, his family of 11 was sent to stay with their guardian; an owner of a large plantation. Jefferson inherited a large amount of the land at the humble age of 21. Thomas Jefferson studied law at the College of William and Mary, which led to his innovative ideas of how the US government should work. Like all of the other Founding Fathers, Jefferson wore many hats but is only remembered for some.
The Presidential Dollar series was first minted in 2007, portraying the first four presidents. Thomas Jefferson is the third president of the US as well as the second vice president. Don Everhart, a mint engraver, designed the obverse of Thomas Jefferson. The talented author is accompanied by his term in office, as well as his name. The reverse honors the Statue of Liberty, since it is the law to include an emblematic symbol of liberty on all US currency. Backed by the US government, the Presidential Dollar rolls have a monetary value of $1. The striking golden color is due to the coin's composition of a copper core and manganese brass coating. The US Mint produces this series in rolls of 25 and although we try our hardest to keep the original packaging in tact, it cannot be guaranteed these rolls are sealed from the mint.
