Morgan was the English engraver who designed the famous Morgan silver dollar design. Morgan began his engraving career in England and then moved his career to the US. He was hired as the assistant engraver to the chief engraver, William Barber, at the US Mint. Morgan worked at the mint for almost 40 years before earning the position of chief engraver when Barber died. Due to political troubles, the Morgan dollar was in production from 1878-1904, then had one last minting in 1921. Since the Morgan contains 90% silver, the government had to reach into their silver reserves and reauthorize the minting of the Morgans for completion.
