  • Description:

Based off of the Mexican Centenario, the Mexican Libertad series' design commemorates Mexican tradition. The Centenario is a Mexican gold bullion coin first minted in 1921 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Mexico's independence from Spain. The oldest mint in the Americas, the Mexican Mint, produces silver Mexican libertads every year. The only aspect of the coin that changes annually is the date featured on the obverse of the coin but due to the incredible detail and history of the coin, buyers don't mind.

On the obverse of the coin is a lovely winged Victoria, delicately balancing on a small pillar. She has wings that extend to the top of the coin and her body is half-covered by a fluttering drape. In the background, the two ancient volcanoes are displayed. Thought to be once lovers, these volcanoes represent love and hope outside of death. These volcanoes are still active today, furthermore encouraging the ancient legend.

-Obverse: Winged Victoria is the primary design. Right next to her is the Mexican Mint's mintmark, "MO," and above her head are the coin's weight and purity.
-Reverse: The reverse of this silver coin pictures the Mexican national seal in the middle of the coin. The seal design is of a dominant eagle, bravely perched on a prickly pear cactus, and holding a large snake in its beak. This design was inspired by ancient legends and paintings that contained an eagle catching a snake. Around the seal, there are 10 smaller designs with the eagle in different stances; these designs represent the 10 provinces of Mexico.
