Carrying as much history as it does numismatic value, the Proof Silver Eagle has been dazzling not only coin collectors but bullion investors since 1986. With a sleek proof finish that takes the US Mint almost double the time to produce than the BU Silver Eagles, the Proof Silver Eagles' outstanding craftsmanship is top notch. The design was inspired by the Walking Liberty half-dollar that was common currency from 1917-1947. This design received so much acclaim, the US Mint decided to revive it for their first silver bullion collection. Since the Proof Silver Eagles also take a longer time produce, the US Mint limits how many they make every year, resulting in much lower mintages than the BU Silver Eagles.
Your Certified Proof Silver Eagle PF69 2003 is backed by the US government and has been certified by NGC, the top grading agency in the world. The US Coat of Arms is illustrated on the back of the coin, revealing a large eagle with outstretched wings. Each talon is clenching something symbolic, while the eagle's body is protected behind a shield. Walking Liberty is featured on the obverse of the coin, resembling a Grecian goddess wearing a delicately flowing toga that falls loosely on her tall and slender frame. For the Proof Silver Eagles, Lady Liberty is finished with a frosted matte finish, compared to the mirror-like proof finish the rest of the coin exhibits. The Lady has two arms in action: the right is extended out and the left is carrying a bundle of branches. "Liberty," is written in a large font above her head and the infamous saying, "In God We Trust," is etched next to her. The coin's date of mintage is included underneath the Lady's sandaled feet. For those who enjoy buying silver online for personal investment purposes, the Proof Silver Eagle series is a great and challenging collection!
