  • Description:

Considered to be the heaviest 1 oz gold coin on the market, the American Gold Eagle is actually more than one ounce with an exact weight of 1.0909 troy ounces. The purity, of the American Gold Eagle, is 91.67% gold. The additional metals in the coins are copper and silver creating a purity of 22 karat. This additional metal is added to keep the coin from scratching as gold is actually a softer metal and can scratch easily in it's pure state. This 22 kt alloy is traditionally know as crown gold and is an English standard.

In 1986, the United States began striking gold and silver bullion coins to compete with world bullion coins such as the Canadian Maple Leaf, the South African Krugerrand, and others. The American Gold Eagles are an extremely popular way of buying gold. Each coin is guaranteed by the US Mint and Treasury for it's weight and purity. Golden Eagle also inspects each coin before shipping to ensure the highest quality of coins.
