Seated Liberty Half Dime 1840 AU – No Drapery

This 1840 Liberty Seated Half Dime is the “No Drapery” variety, often abbreviated as “NDR.” It features the iconic Liberty Seated design by Christian Gobrecht, introduced in 1837. On the obverse, Liberty is shown seated on a rock, holding a liberty pole topped with a Phrygian cap in her left hand and resting her right hand on a striped shield. This early variety lacks the additional drapery folds that were added beneath Liberty's elbow in later issues, making it distinguishable and collectible among Seated Liberty specialists.
