  • Description:

Franklin Pierce was the 14th president to be voted into office but sadly, is considered to be at the bottom of the list as far as popularity is concerned. Leading a dismal personal life, Pierce's wife struggled with illnesses and depression for most of her life, while all of their children died young. Affiliated as a Democrat, Pierce became quite unpopular with the Union by the end of his presidency. Viewing the abolitionist movement as a threat to the unity of the country, Pierce signed the Kansas-Nebraska Act, which would open the opportunity for more farmland and the possible construction of the Transcontinental Railroad. This Act would nullify the Missouri Compromise, which brought more unity among pro-slavery and anti-slavery advocates. Pierce's controversial presidency set the stage for the succession of the South.

The Presidential Dollars Franklin Pierce 2010-S Proof was minted by the San Francisco Mint and will be packaged in a coin flip. Looking over each president's history and the legacy they left behind, it becomes more clear how important remembering each story is. The Presidential Dollars offer collectors a stress-free, easily accessible collection, while invoking so much lost history. The Presidential Dollars are comprised of a copper core and manganese brass coating, resulting in the golden color so many collectors love. On the obverse of the 2010-S Presidential Dollar, Franklin Pierce's portrait is featured, as well as his term in office. The coin's rim carries the date and place of mintage, which is 2010 San Francisco Mint.
