Expected to be the second to last Peace dollar of the series, the Philadelphia Mint decreased the mintage, for the 1927 dollar, more drastically than the year before. In fact, the 1927 Peace silver dollar is the first coin to have a mintage under 1 million, from the Philadelphia Mint. The Peace dollar was the first US coin to memorialize peace among the nation. The type of Lady Liberty chosen is actually a goddess that has been used on currency, worldwide, since before the Roman Empire. The reverse depicts the ultimate symbol of peace: an eagle carrying an olive branch in its talon. Your 1927 Peace silver dollar is in almost uncirculated condition, which consists of slight worn edges and detail but about 3/4's of the original mint luster is present. Since the vintage Peace dollar does contain 90% silver, it is always wise to store them in airtight containers to prevent tarnishing.
