  • Description:

Due to the law that prohibited the US Mint from purchasing more silver, from 1893-1895, the Morgans minted during those years carry some of the lowest mintages in the series. In 1893, it came to the government's attention that over $10 million dollars worth of Morgans were just sitting in the US Treasury and reserve banks all over the country. Since the US Mint was producing more Morgans than the country was actually using in circulation, the government put a hold on purchasing more silver. Your 1893-S Morgan silver dollar is only one of 100,000 Morgans minted at the San Francisco Mint in 1893. This Morgan is considered to be the rarest Morgan minted and is highly valuable, even in the lower grades. This Morgan is in fine condition, presenting heavy wear and creating a smooth surface on the coin itself.
